I grew up in Western New York State, often a million miles away in my imagination though never far from "pen and paper". My determination to travel to England resulted in spending part of my junior year of college and the next sixteen years in a quaint Oxfordshire village where time only seemed to stand still, studying, marrying, working and disappearing to life as my peers back in the States knew it. I eventually returned to a lovely refuge near my home town, letting go of some dreams but holding onto others - most devotedly to writing as I knew I could, for the poetry of words and stories that otherwise I could never tell, living the artistic life like a secret I would keep forever, working at my craft as necessarily as whatever "day" job I had. A leisurely smile and song here and there may've distracted my effort, only to lead me back to the singleness of my purpose. My writing has always been the voice of my existence - music's oldest melodies, history's mysteries, the heart's perplexities and the soul's insistence encouraging it to step to the stage and sing. |
